Family visas are available to applicable partners, family members and carers of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, and eligible New Zealand citizens who intend to move temporarily or permanently to Australia.

There are several family visa subclasses, which are relevant to prescribed circumstances.

With this visa, an offshore de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen can come and live in Australia temporarily. It is the first step towards a permanent Partner visa (Subclass 100) for applicants who are located offshore at the time of application.

This visa is the permanent pathway to people who hold a temporary Partner visa (subclass 309).

This visa allows people to come to Australia to marry their prospective spouse and then apply for a Partner visa (Subclass 820).

With this visa, an onshore de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen can come and live in Australia temporarily. It is the first step towards a permanent Partner visa (Subclass 801) for applicants who are located onshore at time of application.

Subclass 801 visa is the permanent pathway to people who currently hold a temporary Partner visa (subclass 820).

This visa is for people who are not New Zealand citizens but are members of a family unit of a New Zealand citizen, and who are intending to live and work in Australia.

This visa allows the child of a temporary Partner visa holder to stay in Australia with their parents while their parent’s permanent Partner visa is being processed.

With this visa, children adopted outside Australia by an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen are allowed to live in Australia with their adoptive parent(s)

Subclass 101 visa allows a child who is not in Australia to move to Australia to live with their Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen parent(s).

Subclass 802 visa allows a child who is already located in Australia to remain in the country permanently to live with their Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen parent(s).

With this visa, a parent of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen can visit Australia for a substantial period of time as a temporary visa holder.

Subclass 103 visa is a permanent resident visa that allows an offshore parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen, to move to Australia.

This visa is for an onshore, aged parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to remain in Australia on a permanent basis.

The Subclass 884 visa allows an onshore aged parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to stay temporarily in Australia. This is an optional pathway to Subclass 864 visa, which is a permanent resident visa. Subclass 864 visa can be applied directly, or Subclass 884 visa can be used as a pathway to split the high contributory costs involved. Contributory Parent visas allow for a faster visa processing time than non-contributory Parent visas.

This visa is for an onshore, aged parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to remain in Australia on a permanent basis. Subclass 864 visa can be applied directly, or Subclass 884 visa can be used as a pathway to split the high contributory costs involved. Contributory Parent visas allow for a faster visa processing time than non-contributory Parent visas.

This visa allows a parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen stay temporarily in Australia. This is an optional pathway to Subclass 143, which is a permanent resident visa. Subclass 173 visa can be used as a pathway to split the high contributory costs involved. Contributory Parent visas allow for a faster visa processing time than non-contributory Parent visas.

This visa is for an aged parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to remain in Australia on a permanent basis. Subclass 143 visa can be applied directly, or Subclass 173 visa can be used instead as a pathway to enter and remain in Australia temporarily prior to applying for Subclass 143 visa to split the high contributory costs involved. Contributory Parent visas allow for a faster visa processing time than non- contributory Parent visas.

With this visa, a single, older person who is reliant upon an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen relative living in Australia for financial support can move to Australia permanently.

With this visa, a single, older person who is reliant upon an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen relative living in Australia for financial support can remain in Australia permanently.

Subclass 117 visa allows a child who is single to come to Australia to live with an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen relative if their parents are dead, are unable to care for them, or cannot be found.

Subclass 837 visa allows a child who is single to remain in Australia to live with an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen relative if their parents are dead, are unable to care for them, or cannot be found.

This is a permanent visa that allows visa holders to stay in Australia to care for an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen who has a long-term medical condition and would otherwise have no reasonable access to care options in Australia.

This is a permanent visa that allows visa holders to move to Australia to care for an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen who has a long-term medical condition and would otherwise have no reasonable access to care options in Australia.

This visa allows people to move to Australia to be with their only close family member(s) who are Australian citizen(s), Australian permanent resident(s), or eligible New Zealand citizen(s).

This visa allows people to stay in Australia to be with their only close family member(s) who are Australian citizen(s), Australian permanent resident(s), or eligible New Zealand citizen(s).
